Getting Healthy through Education and Enlightenment
May 28, 2009
Hello again. I recently was privileged to spend a wonderful week at the Hippocrates Health Institute located right here in West Palm Beach (http://www.hippocratesinst.org). I was fortunate to WIN a complimentary week’s stay as a terrific door prize during their RawFest Celebration Day last October! At HHI, we learned how to optimize our health through “the 4 strong legs of the table”: nutrition, exercise, emotional attentiveness, and spiritual awareness. Therapeutic massages, mineral salt and other pools, breathing techniques, fantastic trainers of oriental health exercises, chi gong, yoga, pilates, NIA exercise, circle dance, meditation, visualization techniques, reflexology, sprouting, wheatgrass growing and juicing, skin care, and much nutritional information filled a very rewarding (and pampered) week.
Educational resources for improved healthful living are abundant these days, and we are privileged to carry many outstanding books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, and electronic resources in our library that relate to the very worthwhile topics covered at Hippocrates. In our beautiful new library building at 411 Clematis Street, on the first floor, you will find excellent new materials in our “Mind, Body, Spirit” and “Health” sections. The book You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay was highly recommended at HHI, and it can be found in several formats in our library collection. A few other highly recommended reading materials include:
The acid alkaline food guide : a quick reference to foods & their effect on pH levels / Susan E. Brown, Larry Trivieri, Jr. – an excellent description of the nutritional aspects of acid-based imbalances, diet therapy, and hydrogen-ion concentration
Love thyself : the message from Water III / Masaru Emoto. — inspiring, magical, amazing photos and thought-provoking concepts
Fresh food from small spaces : the square inch gardener’s guide to year-round growing, fermenting, and sprouting / R.J. Ruppenthal. Creating a food system for your space — Deciding what to grow in your garden space — How to buy or build productive vegetable containers — Using vertical space and reflected light — Starting transplants and cycling your crops — Growing fruit and berries in your spare space — Sprouting grains, beans, wheatgrass, and salad sprouts — Making yogurt, kefir, and fermented foods — Cultivating mushrooms – Making compost and partnering with worms — Survival during resource shortages — Helping to build a sustainable future
Mutant message down under / Marlo Morgan. Adventures of a woman uprooted from her busy life into the midst of nowhere, as she learns purposefulness from letting go.
5 essentials for a winning life : the nutrition, fitness, and life plan for discovering the champion within / Chris Carmichael with Jim Rutberg. Lance Armstrong’s personal coach describes a life philosophy through which he counsels male athletes on how to harmonize fitness levels, nutrition, relationships, career, and health as part of an overall program for reaching personal goals.
Creative visualization / Shakti Gawain. Techniques to achieve success through visualization, using the power of imagination to create what you want in your life
Body, mind, and sport : the mind-body guide to lifelong fitness, and your personal best / John Douillard ; forewords by Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova. Explores complete fitness through exercise, physical fitness, mind and body, Ayurvedic medicine, and sports.
The New sugar busters! : cut sugar to trim fat / H. Leighton Steward. Examines the pathophysiology of refined carbohydrates, insulin usage, and the benfits of a sugar-free diet.

Wow. What a small world. I was at the RawFest Celebration when you won the week stay at HHI. But here’s the real kicker. I was at your graduation when you completed your week, and I was so thrilled to see who had won the week.
I was graduating myself with a group of people I took for the 3-Week program.
I’m very glad you had the amazing opportunity to spend some time at the center. Visit my blog for tips on how to get more out of the Hippocrates Health Institute program.
